Earlier this week we decoded wedding dress codes. Today we take a closer look at wedding attire based on venue location and the invitation itself as it is not always clearly stated on the invitation. If the invitation uses proper and fancy (scroll) text and the location is held at a formal venue such you can rest assure that the dress code is formal. On the other hand if the invitation appears on the laid back side with block letter text and is held on the family farm it’s safe to assume that the dress code is casual.
Outdoor/Tent Wedding:
- Sensible shoes. This means no stiletto heels unless you feel like aerating the venue’s grass.
- Bring along a shawl or cardigan. When the sun goes down, you will be thanking your lucky stars you brought something to keep you warm.
- Bug spray. If you are able to fit a small can into your purse or have easy access to your vehicle throughout the event you will be very thankful you brought it, especially if you live in Alberta.
- If you have allergies don’t leave your medication at home.
Beach Wedding:
- Dressy sandals. This goes for both men and women. Ladies avoid heels as they make walking on the beach a strenuous endeavor.
- Sunscreen. If you are going to be outside in the sun all day make sure you apply sunscreen, the last thing you want is to get a painful sunburn.
- Avoid wearing silk materials. You’ll be sweaty and clammy before the couple exchanges vows.
Indoor Wedding:
- Bring along a shawl. Some venues have the tendency to crank up the AC making it colder inside than it is outside, which isn’t always a good thing.
If you are still unsure of the attire it’s always a safe to dress formal. Oscar Wilde said it best with, “You can never be over dressed or over educated.”
